Parks is a beautiful rural community in Northern Arizona (elevation 7200 feet), located halfway between Williams and Flagstaff, Arizona in unincorporated Coconino County. The current population is about 1200 residents, with a general store and a Feed Store, an elementary/middle school (K thru 8th grade), and a Fire station. Parks is located just off of Interstate 40 (Exit #178), adjacent to the Kaibab National Forest. Adjacent to I-40 are the Burlington Northern Railroad tracks, a major east-west rail route. More than 100 commercial and two Amtrak passenger trains pass through the area daily. Historic Rt. 66 runs through the center of town. Each property is a minimum of one acre with many properties over 10 acres.
The community is under the jurisdiction of Coconino County and the State of Arizona for community laws, zoning and construction regulations. The main roads are paved, while most of the roads within subdivisions are topped with cinders. Some of the roads are maintained by the County and are routinely graded and plowed in the winter, while some roads are private and are maintained by the homeowners. The speed limit within the residential areas is 25 mph for the safety of walkers and to keep dust down. There are many forestry roads in the Parks area that are maintained by the Kaibab National Forest. Because Parks is adjacent to the Kaibab National Forest, many hiking trails are available along with a cross-country ski area.
The purpose of the Parks Area Connection (PAC) is to provide assistance to persons within the greater Parks area in distress or affected by disaster and to promote and be involved in community activities. There are no other local organizations that offer this type of immediate service. After providing immediate assistance to those in need (i.e., temporary housing, clothing, food, etc), PAC refers families to other agencies that can offer long term assistance.
- PAC is a local 501(c)(3) non-profit Arizona Corporation formed in April 2012, consisting of Parks Area members.
- PAC’s mission is to provide assistance to persons within the greater Parks area affected by emergency situations.
- PAC promotes and is involved in community activities.
- PAC is available to help other charitable organizations in the Parks area.
- PAC helps fill the needs of the local school.
- We welcome all organizations in the Parks area to join with PAC as well as Parks residents (including PART TIME residents).
- We do most of our fundraising in the summer.
- There are many needs in our rural community and PAC is ready and willing to give the help that is needed.
Our wishes are to welcome new members that want to be a part of a beautiful, caring community.
